Hello! How can we help you?

Big-wheeled rollator — what does it mean and who is it suitable for?

A large-wheeled rollator is a mobility aid with larger wheels than usual — usually 10–14 inches or more. The large wheels make walking smooth and safe even on challenging terrain: gravel, grass, sand, and forest paths.

What is the difference between a regular and large-wheeled rollator?

A regular rollator is designed primarily for indoor use or on flat, paved surfaces. Its small wheels (usually 6–8 inches) can easily get stuck on rocky or uneven ground.

A large-wheeled rollator can easily overcome the same obstacles. The larger diameter means that the wheel rolls over rocks instead of hitting them — just like the difference between a mountain bike and a regular bike on asphalt.

Advantages of a big wheel rollator

  • Stability on uneven ground** — big wheels distribute the weight over a wider area
  • Easier to push — the bike rolls over an obstacle and doesn't stop there
  • Better braking — bigger brakes also hold on slopes
  • More versatile use — the city, the beach, a forest path or the yard can be done with the same device

Who is a big wheel rollator suitable for?

A big wheel rollator is especially suitable for you if:

  • You want to go for a walk outdoors even on uneven terrain
  • You live in a rural area or an area where the streets are not completely paved
  • You love walking on the beach, in the park or on nature trails
  • You want a rollator that works both indoors and outdoors

Trionic Veloped — a big-wheeled rollator for all terrains

The Trionic Veloped was designed from the ground up as a big-wheeled outdoor rollator.

The Veloped's wheels are 12–16 inches — significantly larger than those of standard rollators — and are equipped with air-filled tires for the best riding comfort.

The Veloped is available in several models for different purposes:

  • Veloped Sport — for urban use and smoother outdoor terrain
  • Veloped Tour — a versatile model for the city into nature
  • Veloped Trek — for demanding terrain and longer trips
  • Veloped Jakt — specialized for hunting and forest terrain

Wheel size affects the walking experience more than many people think

Studies show that the size of the wheel of a rollator is one of the most important factors in terms of walking comfort and safety when moving outdoors. Even small stones and

seams cause the small wheel to get stuck or stop suddenly — which is not only uncomfortable but also a safety risk.

A rollator with large wheels eliminates this risk. Trionic Veloped users repeatedly report that they can reach places they previously wouldn't dare to go with a rollator.

How to choose the right big-wheeled rollator?

In addition to the wheel size, you should pay attention to:

  1. Frame material — aluminum is light, steel is more durable
  2. Foldability — can it be folded into a car or public transport?
  3. Height adjustment — adjustment range for both short and tall users
  4. Brake system — loop brakes or locking brakes?
  5. Seat and storage bag** — on long trips, the comfort of the seat is crucial

Trionic Walker also offers big wheels in a more compact size in the package — a good choice if you are looking for a rollator with large wheels that can easily fit into a smaller space.
